This course begins with a review of typical physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of children ages five through twelve years. Investigation of the education and care of children with special needs from birth through school age is a major focus of this course. An overview of types of developmental differences, exploration of the concepts of inclusion, and planning for inclusive early childhood programs provides information supporting an inclusive approach to working with children who have exceptionalities.
